"In response to the continuous and sustained rise in the price of crude oil, the Hungarian national carrier is increasing the kerosene surcharge by one euro per segment on its short- and medium-haul scheduled services as from 16 November 2007.Expenditures related to fuel procurement represent a considerable proportion of the total costs of any airline. In the case of Malév, these run to over 20% . The sustained and dramatic increase in the world market price of kerosene has forced the Hungarian airline, similarly to other major airlines, to up the kerosene surcharge.
In Malév's case this means an approximately €1 price increase per segment on short- and medium-haul scheduled flights as from today.
As has already been reported, from this October - in line with the new business policy of Malév and in compliance with European Union regulations expected to be introduced at the beginning of next year - the Hungarian airline communicates the full, gross price representing the fare for a return ticket with duties, other charges, plus ticketing cost for e-tickets booked online, in other words all tariffs, among them the total amount of the kerosene surcharge."
