"Lars Lindstrom is just getting through life. He holds down a nondescript office job, occupies the garage apartment behind his childhood home, where his brother and sister-in-law Karin now live. He lives in near isolation, avoids human contact—literally, his social life consists of weekly church attendance and chats with his co-worker with whom he shares an office cubicle."Movie type: Comedy - Despite the outrageous premise, this is not a raunchy film at all but a rather gentle story about acceptance and overcoming grief. Still, more sensitive and conservative viewers may take some offense just by the mere presence of the doll, and the film may come off as simply odd for some.
Director: Craig Gillespie
Script: Nancy Oliver
Starring: Ryan Gosling (Lars), Patricia Clarkson (Dagmar), Emily Mortimer (Karin)
Length: 1 hr. 46 min.
Reviews:
”Good Lars and the Real Girl is an example of how even the most ridiculous premise can be used to construct a smart, touching motion picture.” Berardinelli, Internet Critic
”Very Good There are so many ways 'Lars and the Real Girl' could have gone wrong that one of the film's fascinations is how adroitly it sidesteps them. Its weapon is absolute sincerity.” Roger Ebert
”Very Good Lars and the Real Girl is a tenderly observed and affecting Capra-esque fable that is well-acted and gently funny.” USA Today
”Average Gosling is the film's salvation: He really is good enough to make this underwritten fantasy feel as though it amounts to something. But it doesn't.” TV Guide Online
