Demszky Caught Breaking Traffic Rules

Demszky Caught Breaking Traffic Rules
"Police have launched misdemeanour proceedings against Budapest mayor Gábor Demszky for driving his car the wrong way along one-way Holló utca, parking for ten minutes in an area sealed off to traffic and then reversing down the road backwards, also in breach of the highway code. A local resident photographed him and sent the pictures to website velvet.hu.

Four years ago Demszky was convicted of driving at 131 kph near Salgótarján without a valid licence. His licence was revoked for four months and he was fined Ft 40,000.

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány initiated a campaign of zero tolerance of traffic violations last year. Government commissioner Ferenc Kondor told Magyar Hírlap that politicians, including Demszky, should set an example as regards traffic morality and must accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions, just like any ordinary citizen."
