"Fidesz party director Zsolt Nyitrai on Friday charged the governing parties of putting aside nearly Ft 1 billion for the referendum campaign, “which proves that the government fears it.”Nyitrai recalled Health Minister Ágnes Horváth’s comments that the government cannot compensate the shortfall of visiting and daily hospital fees in the event of a successful referendum. Nyitrai suggested that the hundreds of millions of forints could instead be spent on “200 hospitals that are endangered by the lack of funds.”
The Socialist Party has no official position on the Fidesz referendum initiative, while the Free Democrats oppose it.
Meanwhile the Democratic Forum announced on Friday that it will support the Fidesz referendum initiative and will use all the legal means available to ensure that the new health insurance bill does not take effect. The opposition party added that it will appeal to the Constitutional Court if the Socialist and Free Democrat majority votes down the Fidesz initiative in Parliament."
