Corrupt Prison Officers To Stand Trial

Corrupt Prison Officers To Stand Trial
"The Budapest Military Prosecutor’s Office is pressing charges on seven correctional institute officers, two lawyers and two civilians.

The nine professional face charges of bribery, abuse of office and document forgery after providing benefits to inmates in exchange for cash. Unscheduled visiting, jail term pauses and more comfortable cells were also provided to certain convicts.

An investigation revealed that some of the convicts paid as much as Ft 1 million to serve time at the Tököl juvenile delinquents prison and were given VIP cells. Inmates who were unable to pay the sums reported the staff officers to the authorities.

Justice Ministry state secretary Gábor Juhász charged acting corrections institute commander Sándor Dömény with dereliction of duty."
