Orbán Hopes To Lead “New Majority”

Orbán Hopes To Lead “New Majority”
"There is a “new majority” in Hungary not created by Fidesz, which seeks political representation, and Fidesz is the right vehicle for embodying, expressing and representing its will, intention and interests, party chairman Viktor Orbán said during an Thursday interview on Echo TV.

The government is wrong if it thinks that the right- and left-wing division is very strong in Hungary, he remarked. It is wrong, Orbán went on, because if crucial issues arise, people will not accept the reneging of an agreement with them or that they be lectured by the government.

He said ordinary people sent three messages in last Sunday’s referendum, the first being that a policy built on lies is over, secondly that people will not accept a policy of exclusion and thirdly that social welfare security is a precondition to competitiveness.

He said what has happened in Hungary in recent years is disappointing, as politicians were able to score successes by resorting to methods alien to the spirit of democracy, such as concealing data, lying, and forgery.

Earlier, Fidesz deputy Speaker János Áder told reporters that the cabinet has a constitutional obligation to make up for the loss of revenue in the health care sector due to the success of the referendum.

Áder played a video compilation before the press briefing in which cabinet members firmly denied plans to introduce nominal medical fees or tuition fees before the last parliamentary elections or to sell hospitals. He said his shows that the governing coalition is responsible for the current situation, as a referendum had to be arranged because of their lies."
