Prime Minister To Stay For Now At Least

Prime Minister To Stay For Now At Least
"The governing Hungarian Socialist Party is not going to oust Prime Minister Gyurcsány until next year's EU parliamentary elections, Info Radio's webpage wrote. Neither will hold a confidence vote on the Prime Minister, the page added. This information surfaced after last weekend's session of the Socialist Party.

On the meeting where party members negotiated about the future of the health care reform and the situation of the Socialist Party, party officials agreed that reforms will continue, but in a slower pace and with more involvement of the party.

According to news portal Index, Gyurcsány remains a leading member of the party, but decisions will not simply be made in Gyurcsany's working room. Party members supported Gyurcsany. Even his long time rival Chairman of the Parliament, Katalin Szili, agreed that she did not meet Gyurcsany frequently enough to discuss debated issues.

In connection with the healthcare reform, party members debated whether the party should get involved in the referendum on the health care reform or not. The governing coalition is intensively working on proposals to avoid the referendum, by introducing reform plans that include both the government responsibility for health care, and the private investors' participation.

The Socialist Party will hold a party conference this Saturday with 2000 participants, discussing all of the issues, but there will be no confidence vote on Gyurcsany, a prominent Socialist Politician Ildikó Lendvai said."
