"Some 265 tons of illegally-brought Bavarian waste will soon be returned to Germany under an agreement concluded in Budapest on Monday.Environment Minister Gábor Fodor said the deal was reached as a result of tough negotiations, as the Bavarian authorities “did not originally want to take one gramme of it back”, reasoning that the waste was delivered to Hungary with an official consignment note. But Fodor said this was not true, as the documents had been forged.
Nearly half of the illegal waste has been returned to Germany so far, and half of the remaining waste will be taken away from Kunbaja waste depot within the next three months. The German authorities will pay for the cost of returning the waste. Further negotiations are ahead on the remaining waste.
Hungary’s nature conservation authority has slapped a nearly Ft 1 billion fine on the Hungarian waste smugglers."
