"Malév and Hungarian Post reckon on 1000 tons of Hungarian Post mail deliveries in 2008. This tonnage, equivalent to approximately 120,000 mailbags, is a 10% increase on the quantity delivered last year. The two companies are servicing the increasing demand in the framework of coordinated and close cooperation. The existing air cargo contract between Malév and Hungarian Post was recently renewed.
In 2007 Malév carried 108,915 mailbags consigned by Hungarian Post Co. Ltd. On average this represents more than 200 mailbags per day. The quantity of postal deliveries peaks during Christmas and New Year, as well as around Easter. During these periods 3-4 times the average daily amount is loaded into aircraft.
Rigorous regulations must be observed during the carriage of postal cargo. Of these the most important are quality and security. For instance, one of the quality requirements demanded by the European Union is that EMS (express) and priority mail in Europe has to be delivered within three days of being posted.
Air mail deliveries were being made in Hungary as early as the 1920s. This means that cooperation between Hungarian Post and Malév dates right back to the period when the airline was being set up.
Hungarian Post consigns more than 900 tons of mail to Malév each year. The national airline carries this to 37 countries around the world, where partner airlines then take it on to a further 53 countries."
