Fidesz Urges Election Talks With Fodor

Fidesz Urges Election Talks With Fodor
"If the chairmen of Fidesz and the Free Democrats sit down for talks to find genuine solutions to the country’s real problems, then the possibility of early elections cannot be bypassed, Fidesz spokesman Péter Szíjjártó told Népszabadság on Friday.

He made a statement to that effect after Free Democrat chairman Gábor Fodor announced that he wants to meet Orbán for talks and was pleased to hear that Orbán is ready for talks with the Free Democrats, but he does not want to discuss early elections.

Orbán early last week sent a letter to Fodor, inviting him for talks to formulate a way out of the present situation, stressing that early elections are the solution, rather than a minority government. Orbán told TV2 Friday morning that after early elections co-operation between Fidesz and the Free Democrats would be conceivable on certain subjects such as tax cuts, but ruled out the possibility of a coalition.

In an interview with Saturday’s Magyar Nemzet, Fidesz caucus leader Tibor Navracsics said as time moves on from the Free Democrat convention, he sees ever an lesser chance that Fodor really intends to seek a deal or that he raised the idea of early elections seriously."
