'Valley of Arts Festival', Kapolcs, 25 July - 3 Aug.

'Valley of Arts Festival', Kapolcs, 25 July - 3 Aug.
"The ten-day sequence of events introduces several thousand artists and groups, from the end of July to the beginning of August. Six villages of the Kál Basin (Káli medence) north of the Balaton lakeside host the programmes: Kapolcs, Vigántpetend, Taliándörögd, Monostorapáti, Öcs and Pula.

The 'valley' of the six villages has become a legend since 1989, and the series of events named the 'Valley of Arts' has turned into the most visited general arts festivals in the Carpathian Basin.

Historic church music, organ, jazz, and rock concerts, photo and fine art exhibitions, contemporary films, theatre performances, literary afternoons, dance and movement theatre, folk music programmes, a competition of films made on mobile phones, programmes concerning ecological issues, an architecture heritage conference and a Renaissance children's workshop are among the bountiful offering of the festival.

The six small villages fill with people during the festival period. Craftsmen sell their wares, among them jewellery, handmade clothes, folk music instruments, wooden bowls, handmade paper, carved stones and felted hats. The appetising smells of the pastry horn (kürtőskalács), savoury fried dough (lángos), grilled meats and potatoes with fried onions invite hungry guests to taste these traditional Hungarian foods."
