Queen & Paul Rodgers, Sport Arena, 28 October

Queen & Paul Rodgers, Sport Arena, 28 October
"Thirteen years after their last album, seventeen years after Mercury’s death the Queen is releasing a new album, for the first time without Freddie. The band, including vocalist Paul Rodgers will perform in Budapest on 28th October 2008.

Queen in Budapest 1986

As it is well known, Freddie Mercury died at the age of forty-five on 24 November 1991. The band Queen has never broken up officially, in 1995 they released an album called Made In Heaven, which included materials such as the last studio recording of the vocalist and reworked songs of his previous singles.

The album sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Under the name Queen Brian May and Roger Taylor have given several concerts – such as charity performances, award ceremonies, etc. - with guest vocalists; and they also recorded old-new songs as well: for example for Queen selection albums. The complete comeback was not until 2005 when the band introduced the new vocalist Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), but so far they have only given concerts, including one in the Hungarian capital.

According to the latest news a completely new Queen album is to be released on 1 September 2008, this time without any input from Freddie. Many websites seem to know that the title is Cosmos Rock, but according to the official homepage of the band this is only the fantasy name of the tour that accompanies the new CD, the title of the actual album is still a secret. It is known that the two original members, Brian May and Roger Taylor, along with Paul Rodgers wrote the new songs at the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008.

There is also a song which is known from an AIDS charity event: Say It's Not True. For the first time in history a Queen album will have an adapted song too. The most curious fans can listen to one off the news songs, C-lebrity from 4 April. Base guitarist John Beacon will not play on the new album because he left the band at the end of the 1990’s.

The tour that starts after the release of the album visits fourteen countries, including Hungary. The concert of Queen + Paul Rodgers in Budapest will be held on Tuesday, 28 October 2008, not surprisingly in the Budapest Sport Arena. (It we understand correctly, the album will be released under this name too, not simply as a “Queen-album”.) The tour will include one free stop too, in Gdansk. The location of this concert will be the ship factory which played an important role in the modern-day history of Poland on 20 September."
