'Hungarian Folklore Performances', Budai Vigadó, 20 July
"The "Hungarian State Folk Ensemble", the "Danube Folk Ensemble" and the "Rajkó Folk Ensemble" are three of the best professional Hungarian folk ensembles and perform in this series the greatest of Hungarian Folklore.

The ensembles have a long tradition - founded in 1951, 1957 and 1952 - and perform all around the country and abroad. All three ensembles consist of 30 artists, and their choreographies are based on authentic dances. Some of them were collected in isolated villages and date back hundreds of years.

Throughout the performances you can get a broad view of the music, dance and costume heritage of Hungary and the Hungarian inhabited areas. Today, there are only a few countries beside Hungary where the art of folk-dancing is performed at such high artistic level. There exists even a college for studying Hungarian folk dances.

With their very successful shows, the ensembles have been on tours throughout Hungary, Europe, North and South America, Australia and the Far East and fascinated a large number of audience.

Rajko Orchestra e Folk Ensemble, Orchestra
The world famous Rajko Orchestra and Folk Ensemble has been offering a unique musical experience since 1952. Their repertoire covers many genres from classical to folk music, and from operettas to folklore dances.

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, Orchestra
The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, regarded as one of the best in Hungary, was established in 1951. It presents authentic folk music and therefore preserves the unique Hungarian folk dances and traditional costumes of Hungarian-inhabited areas in their performances. The ensemble consists of two orchestras and one dance ensemble - the Gipsy and the Folk Orchestra.

In the last years, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble has revitalised the culture of the Hungarian people, and their rich and colourful repertoire entitled the ensemble to be regarded as one of the top touring groups in the world. In earlier times, Hungarian folk music has inspired Liszt, Bartók and Kodály, whose compositions will be also performed by the Folk Orchestra and the world-famous Gipsy Orchestra in their concerts.

Danube Folk Ensemble, Orchestra
The Danube Folk Ensemble is one of the most popular professional groups in Hungary and its members are excellent dancers and musicians of traditional folk music and dances. The ensemble performs original dances with Hungarian folk rhythm, dynamic and style, and creates innovative dance-theatre pieces.

They gives over one hundred performances eachyear, including weekly shows at the Duna Palota and folklore and dance-theatre performances in theatres of Budapest and all over the country. Besides presenting its own repertoire, the ensemble has participated in various theatre productions such as Janos Vitez - a musical tale, King Stephen, Attila - rock operas and the opera Dozsa György. Over the past years, they have been establishing a unique performance style under the artistic director Zsolt Juhasz."
