Source - Budapest SunThe Hungarian Land Rover Club is organizing an International GPS Challenge from December 28-30, which will be open to anyone with a four-wheel drive vehicle and a Global Positioning System (GPS) set.
Participants can begin the challenge from any place in Hungary and, using their GPS sets, must find as many of 100 markers hidden across the country as possible within 48 hours.
The positions of the markers will be provided by email to participants on the first morning of the competition and many are expected to be in off-road locations to offer the greatest challenge to competitors and their vehicles.
The winner will be the vehicle which arrives at event headquarters within the time limit with the greatest number of markers collected, although organizers said they did not expect all the markers to be picked up as this would involve 2000km of driving, much of it on dirt tracks or off-road.
Organizers said they were expecting around 100 vehicles, from Hungary, the UK, Sweden, Belgium and several other countries, to take part - foreign competitors will be provided with accommodation and Internet access.
At the final checkpoint, which organizers are keeping secret until the contest begins, there will be a prize-giving ceremony, where one-third of the participants will receive a prize.
Entry cost for Hungarian-based participants is Ft18,000 ($64) per vehicle, which includes participation and the prize-giving dinner party. For competitors coming from abroad, the fee is euro130 ($116) per vehicle (with two occupants) which also includes accommodation and Internet access.
On December 31st there will also be an offroaders’ New Year’s party, which will cost Ft10,000 ($35.6), including dinner and accommodation. For more information on the Challenge, contact András Gerô on (06-20) 935-7700 or Ian Shires on (06-30) 280-1628.
