Café clubbing: Part II

Source - Budapest Sun

Ok so most of you I hope like Liszt Ferenc tér. It’s a cool place. It is conveniently located. Most of the places have decent food and a happy atmosphere.

I’ve written about the dance club downstairs from the Mediterán Café. Just across the way is another club-café combo called the PestiEst. If you’ve never done anything but drink there, it’s worth checking out the dance hall in the basement, accessed by a staircase toward the back of the café.

It’s clean, accommodating and laid back. About two months ago some pretty cool local jazz bands were playing there and gave strong performances. Hardly anyone showed up, which was a shame. The dance floor was empty with only the reflection of the lights blinking off its glossy surface.

It’s a stylish looking place, the bar off to the right when you walk in. A polished pine bar gleams under amber lighting and those sitting on the stools are served by one of the nicest bartenders in the city. I am not joking. He is always so nice and acts the same whether you order water (Ft210), Red Bull (Ft450) or anything alcoholic (Ft250-800).

Past the bar, a seating area offers a vantage point of a screen flickering with videos and ambient images.

If you continue to walk forward at the entrance (I forgot to mention the glass door is a nice touch to the decor) past the bar you will find the far end of the red dance floor and a seating area facing a small stage.

There is supposed to be a set schedule but so far I haven’t noticed anything consistent except Wednesday nights which is the Lesz Caps Club with DJ Quattro, Lejön and Klass. It’s a night of relaxing world-beat, techno and jazzy, drummy dance music. If that doesn’t sound good, check out the Live Music and Clubs listings in the Ten-day Calendar in The Budapest Sun. The jazz concerts tend to be a sure bet.
