Danubius Rt and the municipalities of Zalavár and Sármellék, the owners of Balaton West airport, have signed an agreement with an Irish consortium that will take over as operator of the airport from Zalavár-Sármellék Airport Kft in November, Managing Director István Zóka said. He added that the members of the consortium are predominantly strategic investors, among them Grainger Sawmills Ltd, according to an unnamed source. Meanwhile, the owners are planning a Ft 1 billion investment in cooperation with an Irish company to build a new passenger terminal to boost capacity from the current 30,000 passengers to 100,000. There is speculation that the new operator is in talks with Irish low-cost airline Ryanair about new flights, among other scheduled and charter flight operators. (NG 1) P.P.
