As of May 1, retail products exported to EU member states will not be required to mark the country of origin According to a recent amendment to Hungary’s Act on Consumer Protection, it is optional to put the sign “Made in Hungary” on export products as of May 1. Hungarian manufacturers can use either the “Made in Hungary” or the “Made in the EU” labels on goods exported to outside the EU. The latter label is not compulsory; it is up to the member states to decide the rules of marking the place of origin.
According to a recent proposal by Italy, the use of a “Made in Europe” label could also be applied inside the EU.
(On goods arriving from outside the EU the country of origin should be indicated.)
The Hungarian law requires marking the country of origin on import goods. After the accession, this rule will be lifted in case of products arriving from EU member states.
