Mokka Café & Restaurant

Open daily, noon–midnight
Chef: Zsolt Serényi, Credit cards accepted

Cuisine: A special mixture of flavors. The menu features unusual dishes and food combinations from various parts of the globe.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere of the restaurant is unique, almost Arabian in character. The large number of small candles are really pleasing to the eye.
Mokka boasts a rare combination of stylish interior décor, delicious food and terrific staff.
On this occasion, the place certainly managed to live up to expectations, being as good as always. The usual pleasant atmosphere, courteous but not over-familiar service, and last but not least, excellent food, were all there.

Whom to take: It’s a good place for business lunches. It is in an area where there are lots of financial institutions – between the basilika and the headquarters of Hungarian Television (MTV).
In the past few months, I have had innumerable meals in this restaurant in the company of colleagues and clients.
It’s advisable to book a table in advance for any time of the day. For this review, we ate on a lunchtime and the house was full.

What we ate: I was especially impressed by my starter, a fantastic clear meat broth with specially seasoned chicken dumplings. But I should also say that my main dish, a crisp and mellow chicken breast in cheese coating with herb mashed potatoes, was top class as well.
My lunch companion’s gazpacho was light and refreshing, and he felt that it was a perfect starter on a boiling Budapest summer day. For his main course, he tried the trout dish, which is one of the restaurant’s staples. The fish was succulent and was cooked just right.
The coffee was delicious, fit for the Arabian atmosphere of the place.

Wine list: A good selection of reasonably priced but high quality Hungarian, Italian and Spanish wines is on offer.

Service and value: Here, it’s worth mentioning that Mokka’s accommodating approach toward lunching professionals is reflected in its Business Menu. This comprises two courses for under Ft 1,000, so anyone can visit the place regularly and enjoy the marvels of its cuisine.
On the other hand, I have spent some enjoyable nights browsing among the specialties of the food and wine menu. I have always found the prices truly realistic, especially when compared to the excellent quality of the food, drink, service and atmosphere.

József Kmetty is used to sampling food from around the globe.
As sales director and deputy CEO of Kürt Computer System House Rt, a specialist in data protection and recovery, he has traveled to the four corners of the globe to rescue data. This naturally involves a lot of going to dinner with clients, a side of business travel to which Kmetty, who has been with Kürt for ten years, says he is very partial.
One of his most regular destinations is Vietnam. He also participated in a delegation of businesspeople that accompanied a Hungarian government visit to India, where he says he found the food in Bangalore a little too spicy.
