The National Radio and Television Board (ORTT) yesterday gave its consent to Hungarian Television (MTV) to launch a news channel called MTV Demokrácia. MTV’s president, Zoltán Rudi announced that the new channel would broadcast information on public life and of general interest from next spring. Cable service providers are obliged by EU regulations to include the channel in their services. Rudi also added that MTV wants to launch 3 other channels as well, a cultural, a sports and a ’nostalgia’ one in the near future. Éva Vékony, spokesperson of ORTT said that MTV’s board and ORTT will negotiate on the finances of the new initiatives. (MH 1) R.G.
