Enhanced Data GSM Environment (EDGE) will be available through the network of Hungary's leading mobile operator T-Mobile by December in over 90% of Budapest, business daily Világgazdaság said on Friday. EDGE will provide Internet connection via cell phones more than three times faster than GPRS (General Packet Radio Service).
T-Mobile (formerly Westel) was to first to launch EDGE in Hungary at the end of 2003. By this service the transmission of electronic mail, with large content, became faster.
The top-of-the-line GSM technology could provide download speed of 100 kbps and upload speed of 50 kbps.
The use of the technology requires GPRS and a phone that is geared with EDGE support. The payment is invoiced on the basis of the amount of data downloaded.
