The Siemens group won a euro 26 million tender to help renovate a section of the Budapest underground, the German manufacturer said yesterday. The project was commissioned by Budapest Transport Company BKV Rt, and will concentrate on the technological revamping of line 2, which is 10 kilometers long, and will include the installation of new control, communications, and security equipment. As a result, Siemens expects to cut minimum time between trains to 100 seconds from the current 135. The project will not disturb metro traffic, and will be completed in 2008, said the company. This project is part of a 5-phase reconstruction, two phases of which have taken place. (MTI)
