Hungary govt, banks sign letter of intent to support housing programme

Finance Minister Tibor Draskovics, István Kolber, Minister without portfolio responsible for regional development, and Tamás Erdei, President of the Hungarian Banking Association, signed a letter of intent for the so-called Fészekrakó programme. The government aims at helping the housing problems of young people with the programme.

Draskovics said the programme will provide help to three groups:
· For those with higher income but without flat
· For those who are ready to do with a more modest flat
· For those who are unable to buy flat but would consider a supplement to their housing costs as a big help

Kolber said HUF 276 billion will be available in the 2005 budget to finance various kinds of housing measures.
