Healthcare Fund Publishes Death Toll Rate

Approximately 19% of all patients who were hospitalized with a heart attack in Hungary died in the hospitals, the National Healthcare Fund Administration (OEP) announced on its internet website.

The OEP published figures on the death toll in hospitals without disclosing the names of the institutions. However, it revealed a full list of healthcare institutions and their death toll figures to professional bodies.

According to statistics that was made public by the OEP, in metropolitan hospitals more than 20% of patients with heart attacks have died on average. University clinics and national institutions reached an average 15% rate, while their individual rates hover between 10% and 20%. The range of the death toll rate among Budapest-based healthcare units starts at 10% and ends at 25%. None of the county hospitals of Hungary produced a rate below 10% death toll among patients with heart attacks.
