Source: Nua - "According to Jupiter MMXI, traffic to travel sites grew by up to 75 percent in European countries last year.."

Traffic to travel sites was up by 75 percent in Spain, whereas the smallest increase in traffic was in France, where traffic only grew by 11 percent.

The UK is the biggest online travel market in Europe, with almost six million people visiting travel sites in January 2002. Germany is next with 5.1 million, followed by France with 2.6 million.

UK Internet users also spent the longest time on average at travel sites at 37.4 minutes per visitor per month. The European average was 26 minutes per user per month.

The most popular travel site in Europe in January was Bahn.de, with 2.1 million visitors, followed by Lastminute.com with 1.7 million visitors, and Easyjet.com with almost 1 million visitors.

The rest of the top ten travel sites are Trenitalia.com, Ryanair.com, Expedia.co.uk, Voyages-sncf.com, Go-fly.com, Britishairways.com, and Expedia.com.

Jupiter MMXI believes the European online travel market will be worth over EUR20 billion by 2006.
