The government has amended the decrees on travel agencies to protect passengers and adhere to EU guidelines. According to the changes, which are effective from May 13, travel agents must deposit 3% of their previous year net revenue, but at least Ft 500,000, to cover damages or justified claims of passengers. To date there has been no lower limit to the deposit and some travel agents were able to present only a few thousand forints. The other major change is that passengers buying a
trip into a country that is not recommended by the Foreign Ministry as a destination will be allowed to reclaim their money or choose a safer destination if they change their mind. (NG 3) M.K.
