Finnish electronics maker Elcoteq has decided to transfer its European headquarters from Espo, Finland, to Budapest in early July, Harri Ojala, the company's director of European operations told a press conference in Pécs yesterday.The Budapest office will coordinate the company's business operations in Europe, including finance, sales, research and development, Ojala said. The company simply wishes to get closer to its business partners, who are mostly based in Hungary and its neighbors, the director said.
Economics and Transport Minister János Koka said Elcoteq was investing Euro 54 million in upgrading the production technology of the Pécs plant from 2004 to 2008, creating 700 new jobs in the factory, which already employs 4,800. (MTI; NG 4, MH 11)
