France Vetoes Treaty in Blow to Chirac, Integration |
France rejected the European Union's constitution in a national referendum, dealing a blow to President Jacques Chirac and European integration.
The ``no'' vote garnered 55 percent, with 45 percent voting in favor, the Interior Ministry said. The defeat, the first veto of an EU pact by a founding member, may kill the constitution, which requires the approval of all 25 nations.
