Book Week 2009, British International School, 16 - 20 March

Book Week 2009, British International School, 16 - 20 March
"During Book Week, the students, staff and parents at BISB will be celebrating the wonder that is reading by venturing deep into the captivating world of books. You will have the chance to think about your favourite authors, story characters that you have grown up with, and who have inspired you.

Just remember the tales of pirates, fairies and naughty children which fired your imagination, and reflect on all the ways in which a love of books enriches our lives.

During the week we will all have the chance to meet the famous authors Neil Arksey, David Melling and Chris Mould, and to dress up as our favourite book character, take part in some reading-related drama with Sacha Kyle, and if you are in KS2, to come to Book at Bedtime in your pyjamas. You will also be lucky enough to be able to buy a book at the bookfair!

So grab your favourite book and start reading!"

For further information please contact Ms Monika Ford at BISB Library, Tel: (+36-1) 200-9971, 200-8488.

Chris Mould

Chris Mould went to art school at the age of 16 straight from school. During this time, he did various jobs from delivering papers to washing up and cooking in a kitchen.

He realised quite soon that he wanted to illustrate as a full-time career, and that proved a good choice! He has won the Nottingham Children's Book Award and been commended for the Sheffield award.

He loves his work and illustrates the kind of books that he would have liked to have on his shelf as a boy.

He is married with two children and lives in Yorkshire.

Neil Arksey

British writer Neil Arksey has published several well-received works for children and young adults, including MacB, Playing on the Edge, and As Good as Dead in Downtown. He is best known for penning tales that revolve around the sport of European football, also known as soccer. Arksey, a former actor who performed at the Globe Theatre in London, England, has also written for television, writing scripts for the children's series Teddybears and Kipper, as well as Secret Lives, a Finnish soap opera.

Arksey updates the Shakespearean drama MacBeth in MacB, another title published in 1999. In the work, the lives of two friends, Banksie and MacB, are forever altered after a fortune-teller tells them they will both captain their soccer team. When the team's star player, Duncan King, suffers an untimely accident, Banksie and MacB vie for the leadership role.

The tsunami that hit Thailand on December 26, 2004, had a profound effect on the author. Arksey had toured that nation earlier in the year, visiting schools in Phuket, a town that was ravaged by the destructive wave. The author planned to donate all profits from signed copies of As Good as Dead in Downtown purchased through his Web site to the disaster relief effort ongoing through early 2005.
