"Hungary's voters flatly reject to see yet another Socialist Party member in the Prime Minister's seat, a poll conducted by Medián found on Sunday. The respondents do not want Ferenc Gyurcsány, who offered to resign on Saturday, to stay either. Paradoxically, even those who identified themselves as the supporters of the Socialists said they would rather see a caretaker/crisis managing cabinet taking over.Only 45% of decided Socialist Party (MSZP) voters said it would be a good solution if Gyurcsány remained in power or another MSZP member succeeded him.
A small majority of all respondents (eligible voters) would favour early elections, and only 15% of them want the PM to stay or his fellow party member to assume his role.
The least ambiguous group in the poll was that of Fidesz voters, with 73% of them urging early elections. It seems the party management's message hit home.
The respondents find György Surányi, former central bank (NBH) Governor, the most suited for the PM's post. (Fidesz President Viktor Orbán was not among the potential candidates as the pollster focused on a scenario of a constructive vote of no confidence.)
The name of former finance minister Lajos Bokros rang a bell in most of the respondents, but it was him that caused the largest divide, as well.
Medián said 47% of those polled believe Gyurcsány's resignation is favourable, 34% of them said it is detrimental and 19% could not decide yet."
