Advertorial: "Last year the Financial Times ranked the International Master’s in Management programme among the world’s 15 best executive MBA courses. CEU Business School in Hungary organises the renowned course jointly with three foreign universities, and the modules are held in Budapest, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States and Shanghai. Each year the Sándor Demján Foundation supports the participation of one professional with a scholarship of 52,500 euros. This year’s winner is economist Nóra Szeles, an executive of Macrogamma Fund Management Ltd.
“There are 40 of us from 16 countries on the programme,” says Nóra, “all with a professional background of a decade. It’s especially interesting how differently the students from other parts of the world approach the same problems. We usually have heated debates – perhaps that’s the reason why lecturers are so fond of teaching in the programme. We really enjoy learning, not only from the teachers but also from each other.” Gaining international experience is an aspect of the program that the FT also highlighted, ranking the IMM the first in this regard.
During the courses abroad, organising life for her two sons at home presents Nóra a special task. The boys, around ten years old, usually object to being left out from an exciting trip, yet this “foreign adventure” lasts from eight in the morning to late at night every day.
The scholarship aims at increasing Hungary’s competitiveness. “This objective, obvious for economists, can be analysed resoundingly. Yet, what is important is how what we learn is translated into everyday work, thus increasing the competitiveness and international acceptance of our enterprise and industry. At the same time, we are paying back the trust and input we owe to those who gave us this opportunity.”
Besides her work as a financial expert, Nora also likes to teach. She has been giving lectures at Corvinus University of Budapest for years, and also has published books about the Budapest Stock Exchange, where she started her professional career."
