The average room occupancy rate of Hungarian hotels in January-August reached 60.4%, compared with 57.9% in January-July, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Wednesday. Average room occupancy in August alone was 77.5%, up from 70.2% in the previous month.Budapest's four-star hotels had the highest average occupancy of 72% in the first eight months of the year and an outstanding 87.1% in August alone.
The lowest occupancy (43.6%) was registered in four- and five-star hotels in the eastern part of the country, while hotels at Lake Balaton reported a room occupancy of around 49% for the first eight months of the year.
In 2004, the occupancy rate in all hotels examined was 60%.
Gross room revenues of Hungarian hotels went up by a mere 3.9% year on year in August and 13.7% in January-August, compared with a 34% yr/yr jump in July.
Gross average room rate (Gross ARR) was HUF 13,884 in August, compared with HUF 14,894 in July. The gross ARR came to HUF 14,894 in January-August, about HUF 1,300 higher than a year ago at current prices.
The average revenue per available room (REVPAR) came to gross HUF 10,755 in August, up from HUF 10,458 in July. In the first eight months of the year, the REVPAR came in at HUF 8,992, up from HUF 8,741 in January-July and around HUF 700 higher than in the same period of 2004..
The number of guest nights went up by 4.7% in August, compared with a 6.7% year-on-year rise in July. The January-August growth reached 5.6% in annual terms.
