Orbán Predicts Dire Consequences Of 2010 Budget
"Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán on Friday urged the cabinet to withdraw the draft 2010 budget and not stand in the way of change as he addressed a Fidesz rally to launch the autumn political season.

Speaking at Budapest’s Millenáris Park, Orbán called the draft “a lying and irresponsi-ble” document. “Surely, comrades, this song will be the last,” he said sarcastically, refer-ence to the line “This struggle will be the last” in the Socialist anthem “The Internationale”.

Orbán described the document as “a BKV budget of national proportions,” saying that someone within a closed circle takes every-thing, while the rest will pay the bill.

Hundreds of thousands of people could lose their jobs, he continued, asserting that pensions will no longer be paid, the health care sector will collapse, hospitals will not be able to provide medical services, there will be no electricity, doctors and nurses will not be paid their salaries, nor will teachers, because of the budget. Schools and nurseries will be closed down one after another, and local au-thorities could also collapse, he said.

Orbán summed up “the Gyurcsány-Bajnai era” with the words “Õszöd, Zuschlag, off-shore, severance payments, austerity meas-ures”. The budget is proof that the real prime minister is Ferenc Gyurcsány even now, he said, “who has placed his stand-in Bajnai at the steering wheel”.

Orbán called Fidesz’s city council leader István Tarlós the future mayor of Budapest, saying that 2010 could be Hungary’s most important year “to finally get up off the floor”.

Tarlós said ordinary people live in fear because of gangs that surround the capital, and the state of public areas is unacceptable. He said blame clearly lies with mayor Gábor Demszky and the Socialist-Free Democrat coalition that has governed the city for 16 years."
