World Day Of Music, 1 October 2009
"The World Day of Music was initiated by Yehudi Menuhin back in 1975, and it still encourages the people to free their minds and play loosely, spontaneously, wondrously music – without any prejudice against the different music genres in public places.

This year on the 1st of October in the spirit of the Word Day of Music well-known and appreciated Hungarian musicians will give short concerts across Budapest and countywide as well randomly on the busy streets involving all the people passing by.

The organizers of the one-day long event also recruit music lovers and players, all the non-professionals and professionals to do so and play the charango, marimba or electric organ or simply sing on the streets, in the pubs or in their work places. The enthusiastic participators just have to submit the place and time and later the video of their on-off concerts to the website of the event and can compete for the valuable prizes.

The mission of the World Day of Music this year is to eliminate the boundaries between musical styles and genres and to make the people to listen to tracks and concerts that they would never normally do. According to this theme participators are able submit their concerts into the crossover section for extra prizes. In the frames of the 200th anniversary of Haydn’s death people can submit their concerts into the Haydn Year 2009 section as well.

The finale will be a grand concert in the Palace of Arts (MÜPA), where László Dés, Zoltán Lantos and other famous musicians will celebrate the Word Day of Music along with the audience and might end up doing a huge jam together."
