Kalocsai Paprika Rt, Hungary's biggest paprika maker, plans to export between two-thirds and three-fourths of its production this year, CEO Lajos Lakatos said yesterday.Lakatos added that Kalocsai stopped adding imported paprika to its own products as a coloring agent a year ago, after some imports were found to be tainted with a toxic fungus.
Kalocsai expects to import 1,500 tons of paprika to Germany, its biggest export market, Lakatos said. He added that Kalocsai accounts for 3-4% of the 50,000 tons of paprika exported worldwide. Kalocsai accounts for 40-45% of Hungary's paprika production, which last year
came to 6,500-7,000 tons. (Econews; MH 12)
