Budapest Christmas Fair 2009, Vörösmarty Square

Budapest Christmas Fair 2009, Vörösmarty Square
"The Budapest Christmas Market is amongst the best ten Christmas markets in Europe. The spectacular fair takes place every year till the end of December in the heart of the city, in Vörösmarty Square.

At the fair, folk artisans and craftsmen sell their goods which are handmade in the traditional way from natural and organic materials. The quality is guaranteed as all goods are checked by the Association of the Hungarian Folk Artists (Népművészeti Egyesületek Szövetsége).

The market also has a gastronomic side. Visitors can taste traditional Hungarian foods like kenyérlángos (a flat bread like dough cooked in a cob oven), kürtőskalács (a cone-shaped sweet yeast cake), rétes (strudel), pecsenye (roast meats), and last but not least, the most of typical winter drinks, forralt bor (mulled wine).

Various cultural and musical events are connected to the Budapest Christmas Market, and every year there is a Nativity play performance. An advent calendar is placed in the windows of the Gerbeaud Patisserie in Vörösmarty Square."
