"The government’s priorities in the years ahead will be increasing employment, improving education, combating extremists, supporting Roma in-tegration and regaining the shaken credibility of politics, Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai said on Monday.Speaking at the István Bibó Society’s Day of the Republic commemoration in the former upper chamber of the House, Bajnai said “as Hungary’s democratic institutions have been com-pleted, and are strong, their stability must be assured”. He then called for a change of mental-ity regarding “democratic conduct”.
The premier listed accession to NATO and the EU as shared national triumphs, and mentioned euro adoption as a new goal.
Bajnai said the election campaign will “probe voters” rather than debate platforms, “but no politics can be built on lies”. At stake is whether the next cabinet can make good decisions, rather than “good sounding” ones. Parliament is not for MPs “to walk out of, but somewhere they can enter and hear and consider all the counter-arguments”, he added
Justice should be kept out of political battles, as the unbiased operation of the courts and prosecutors offices is necessary in a modern re-public, he underlined."
