Suzuki To Recall 39,000 Hungarian Swift Models To Check Fuel Hose
"Suzuki is to recall some Suzuki Swift models produced in Hungary between the autumn of 2007 and the spring of 2008, the Hungarian unit of Suzuki Motor, Japan’s No.4 carmaker has announced on Wednesday.

The recall affects more than 39,000 Swifts equipped with 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre engines, including 6,230 vehicles sold in Hungary, Viktória Ruska, Suzuki Hungary’s communications chief, told local newswire MTI.

Suzuki said it would need to check the position of the fuel hose in the called-back vehicles in the nearest garage the owner can go to. The owners will be notified in writing whether their car needs this check-up or not, Ruska added.

The affected models were shipped from the Esztergom plant to nearly every country in Europe.

The incorrect assembly discovered now has not made any of the cars unfunctional and there have been no reports of accidents leading back to the fuel hose, either. The company expects the probe and possible replacement to take no more than 30 minutes.

It was announced only a few days ago that 6,340 Swift models manufactured at the Esztergom plant will be recalled in Germany on concerns that the abrasion of the fuel hose may result in fuel leak.

"The product poses a risk of fire because the clearance between the fuel hose and the engine cover might be not adequate and therefore the fuel hose may touch the engine cover. In consequence the outer skin of the fuel hose may get damaged and cause fuel leakage," the European Commission said about the recall of the same models in Poland in its Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) report in mid-Feb."
