"Chairman László L. Simon of Parliament’s cultural and media committee has convened a special meeting for Tuesday afternoon in order to facilitate a public screening of a film on post-1956 interior minister Béla Biszku. The Fidesz MP told Parliament before regular business Monday afternoon that the public should be aware of “this dark spot in Hungarian history”.Biszku authorised the execution and imprisonment of thousands after the 1956 Uprising was suppressed
The state-run Uránia cinema reversed its decision to show the movie after Biszku’s daughter threatened to sue.
Socialist leader Ildikó Lendvai said her party also wants to ensure that the film be shown, but only with the consent of Biszku’s family. She suggested that Fidesz seek the assistance of Imre Pozsgay and Mátyás Szűrös, who she said are certain to have contact with Biszku."
