Hungary minimum wage may be lifted to HUF 69,000 in 2008

"Members of Hungary's National Interest Co-ordination Council (OÉT) may reach an agreement at the council's last meeting today on next year's minimum wage, broadsheet Népszabadság reported on Friday."

"Employers want to see the monthly minimum wage to go up to HUF 62,000, while employers demand HUF 63,000, so the agreement might be around HUF 62,500, the paper said.

According to the would-be agreement for the next three years, the minimum wage would be lifted to HUF 69,000 in 2008 from the current HUF 57,000

If the parties fail to come to terms, the government will have the final say in the matter."
