Finding the best of blends

" CAFÉ Alibi was elected the best café in Hungary during a resent competition. The small venue is located next to the University of Law on downtown Egyetem tér on a street corner, and has no bells and whistles attached. Instead, if offers what you'd expect from a pleasant coffee house: great coffee, breakfast, sandwiches and salads, newspapers, a nice atmosphere, some mellow music and personalized and attentive service.

The owner, a former businessman, has been dedicating all his energies to the café for more than six years now. Last year his hard work earned him second place to the formidable Zila kávéház és étterem in the Pestszentlôrinc area of Budapest (District XVIII). This year his sustained efforts paid off as Alibi gained the premier prize from the website www.kavehazak.hu.

Music is often the maker or breaker of cafés in Budapest. While in the popular café areas of town like Liszt Ferenc tér or Ráday utca the peaceful contemplative mood can often be spoiled by the cheap music of commercial radio, other places which opt to tune-in with a simple one or two programs can add to the beauty of café life, stressed Gergely."
