Christian Democrats Want Marx Statue Removed From Budapest Corvinus University
The Alliance of Young Christian Democrats (IKSZ) has demanded the removal of a statue of Karl Marx from the entrance hall of Budapest’s Corvinus University. “It is unacceptable that Marx, who openly espoused anti-Semitic and racist views, should have a statue in Hungary,” Milán Pálfalvi, the deputy head of the organisation, told reporters in front of the building on Monday.

IKSZ is calling on the management of the institution, formerly called the Karl Marx University of Economics, to remove the statue, he added. Co-ruling Christian Democrats deputy leader, Bence Rétvári, addressed the university management in an open letter on Saturday, calling for the removal of the statue.

Rétvári said that Marx’s views, especially what they led to, prepared the ground for inhuman dictatorships and genocides of the 20th century.
