Low Turnout In Hungary Lifts Smaller Parties
Fidesz will designate 12 of Hungary’s 21 MEPs, having obtained slightly more than half of all votes cast in Sunday’s European Parliament elections. Turnout sank to a record low of 29%, down from 36% in 2009.

For the first time, Jobbik finished a clear second, taking 15% of the votes, as support for the Socialists collapsed to 11%.

The Socialists and the Democratic Coalition will each send two representatives to Brussels, while Together-Dialogue and LMP won enough votes to delegate a single MEP.

Jobbik’s support was unchanged from the 2009 EU elections. In that year Fidesz won 56% of the votes, the Socialists 17% and LMP 3%. The now defunct Democratic Forum won 5% of the vote and one MEP’s seat.
