FX Bill To Be Passed In Hungary In One Day
Parliament will debate the bill on foreign-currency mortgage borrowers on July 4 and pass it that same day, Fidesz caucus leader Antal Rogán told reporters on Thursday. In addition, courts are asked not to take a summer recess, he said, in order to close cases as soon as possible.

Rogán confirmed that the bill will apply to all foreign-currency consumer loans, not only to mortgages.

In addition, the bill will require banks to compensate borrowers even for loans that expired up to five years ago.

He confirmed Economy Minister Mihály Varga’s earlier statement that foreign-currency mortgages will be abolished by the end of the year.

Népszabadság on Thursday quoted Varga as saying that all foreign-currency loans would be converted into forint loans.
