International Wine Congress Begins In Tokaj, Hungary
The 10th International Terroir Congress, the world’s most prestigious wine science conference, began in Tokaj on Monday. This is the first time that a Terroir congress is held in eastern Europe. The conference’s main organiser is Corvinus University of Budapest (BCE), which offers courses in viticulture.

The Tokaj region boasts a unique terroir, and this conference is the perfect opportunity for the Tokaj wine-growing region to present its distinct characteristics, its success and its philosophy to the rest of the world, BCE Rector Zsolt Rostoványi said in the opening speech.

In 2002 UNESCO declared Tokaj a World Heritage Site under the name Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape.

The conference will focus on terroir enhancement, the impact of the latest terroir zoning techniques and landscape and environmental sustainability. No fewer than 170 researchers from 20 countries are scheduled to speak at the conference.
