Hungarian Lottery Company Szerencsejáték Revenues Record High
Hungary’s state lottery company Szerencsejáték increased its revenues by an all-time record high of 36 billion forints (EUR 114m) or 32% in the first half of this year compared to the same period of last year, National Development Minister Miklós Seszták said.

From its total revenue of 148 billion forints, the company contributed 35.4 billion forints to the budget, over 21% more than in the same period of last year.

After-tax profits were 8.617 billion forints in the first half of 2014 or 55% up from the same period of last year. Seszták said that Szerencsejáték has become one of the ten largest taxpayers.

Four years ago, the government set the goal to disprove the stereotype that a state-run company cannot operate as profitably as a private one.

The state lottery company is proof that state firms operating in a well-balanced and successful way can be competitive and considerably contribute to the central budget, he said.
