Hungarian Film Week To Make A Debut
A Hungarian Film Week will be held in October. The event featuring movie productions and TV films of the past three years will take place from October 13 to 19, Ágnes Havas, the head of the co-organising Hungarian National Film Fund, said on Monday. Celebrating a special centenary, the Film Week will open with the screening of an early film made by Oscar-winning Hungarian-born Hollywood director Michael Curtiz (Mihaly Kertész) in 1914.

Curtiz shot the 68-minute silent movie entitled The Exile in Kolozsvár (today Cluj in Romania). The original and highly sensitive film rolls were discovered after 60 years of neglect in the basement of the Hungarian House in New York in 2006, said Lajos Lovas, the director-general of the Hungarian National Digital Archives.

It is the sole production showing Hungarian actress legend Mari Jászai recorded in a moving image. Prizes will be awarded in 17 categories and for 11 professionals based on the vote of members of the recently established Hungarian Film Academy.

Modelled on the French and English institutions, the Hungarian Film Academy was set up with the participation of 30 professionals 17 days ago, and it has now 60 members, Emil Novák, a directorcameraman representing the academy, said.

The Hungarian Film Week has been co-organised with Hungarian media authority NMHH this year and is planned to be organised by the Hungarian Film Academy from 2015 on, he said.
