Business Confidence Improves, Consumer Sentiment Declines
GKI-Erste’s combined gauge of consumer and business confidence edged down in August as consumer sentiment soured. The index slipped to minus 4.1 points in August from minus 3.9 points in July.

The consumer index dropped to minus 21.9 points from minus 18.9, but the business index rose to 2.2 points from 1.4.

Expectations improved markedly in the trade sector, but were little changed in the industrial, construction and service sectors.

Households’ assessment of their own financial positions worsened and fewer said they would be able to make savings. More feared unemployment.
