Lázár Applauds EU Money Granted To Hungary
The government has agreed with Brussels on receiving 34.5 billion euros of support for the 2014-2020 budgetary period, the cabinet chief has said. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is expected to sign the contract on the EU budgetary framework on Sept. 11.

János Lazar insisted the upcoming period would fundamentally change the country, giving it the chance to become a more competitive economy.

He also pledged to streamline the system of drawing down EU money by introducing a simpler and more transparent system for disbursing it. The first tenders will be called as early as this autumn, he added. Lazar said that 60% of the overall amount would go the SMEs, up from just 16% in 2007-2013, and the food industry was also a “big winner”.

He announced that the government is launching a major programme for building motorways that would reach Hungary’s borders by 2018. The government’s goal is to link up county seats with motorways, he said.
