Hungary’s PM. Orbán In Secret Talks With Banks
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and PMO Minister János Lázár conducted secret talks with Austrian bankers on the possible takeover of Erste and Raiffeisen banks earlier this month, business weekly Figyel reports.

Lázár met with Raiffeisen Bank International CEO Karl Sevelda, while Orbán held talks with Erste chief Andreas Treichl.

The cabinet is trying to assess how much pain banks can take without hurting lending, the weekly said, citing Magyar Nemzet.

Erste did not comment on the report, but said it strives to maintain normal relations with governments in the region.
