US Bans Alleged Corrupt Hungarian Gov’t Officials
The US has banned several Hungarian officials, some of them members of the government, due to their involvement in corruption, US chargé d’affaires André Goodfriend confirmed at a Friday press conference. America’s top diplomat in Hungary spoke to reporters after he was summoned to the foreign ministry, where he was asked to share any evidence of corruption.

Goodfriend declined, saying US privacy laws forbid the embassy from revealing the names of those involved. He later told M1 television that those implicated include members of the government and public officials, less than ten in total.

The head of the tax office, Ildikó Vida, is one of those affected, according to Népszabadság, along with prime ministerial chief advisor Árpád Habony, former government spokesman András Giró-Szász, as well as Péter Heim, the communications director of the Századvég political and economic institutes formerly headed by Giró-Szász. Habony and Heim later denied any involvement.
